Dan was horrified as a judge in the foreign land announced to the Court that Dan was guilty of breaking a major law. Dan immediately appealed to the king for mercy. The king replied that a law is a law and there was no way he could bend the law for Dan because the people would say the king was unethical.
However, the king did say that if Dan could find a substitute to take his punishment - six months in jail - then he would allow Dan to remain free.
Dan found a willing substitute, and the man went to jail on Dan's behalf. Days turned into weeks and then months went by. Dan heard nothing. How would he know that his crime had been paid for? It would be when he saw his substitute walking free again.
When he sees him out of prison, he knows that his sentence was fully served. Then he will know that he is justified and no one can bring a charge against him for his old crime. Then he will no longer be afraid of the king or his guards coming after him because the one who was punished in his place is walking free again.
Jesus paid the debt we couldn't pay. He was punished by God in our place for our sins. All the sins we committed in our whole life. God put it all on Him and punished Jesus for every one of those sins until the payment was fully satisfied. God was pleased with Christ's sacrifice and raised Him from the dead.
Jesus' tomb is as empty today as it was three days after He gave up His life for our sins. He is not there because He has risen! His resurrection and empty tomb is our assurance that we have been fully justified. We no longer have to be afraid of God judging us for our sins. His justice is on our side today!
Now that we believe and receive Christ's payment on our behalf, we can rest in Christ's finished work and live in His priceless grace. We can relax in His supernatural peace that he generously gives out as we need it. His calling is easy and light and fits us perfectly. He takes care of the hard stuff as we commit and gives us the wisdom to face daily challenges as they come. It's only hard when we try to take on the burdens that we are supposed to give Him. We are fully restored to the relationship with God we were created to have through Jesus. We have much to celebrate during Resurrection Day!"
…Who was betrayed and put to death because of our misdeeds and was raised to secure our justification (our acquittal), (making our account balance and absolving us from all guilt before God). Therefore since we are justified, acquitted, declared righteous and given a right standing with God through faith, let us grasp the fact that we have the peace of reconciliation to hold and enjoy peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, the Messiah, the Anointed One." Romans 4:25 - 5:1.
