North Augusta's Morgan picks Mars Hill

  • Saturday, March 16, 2013

Robbie Morgan had several interceptions over the past couple of years as a defensive back for the North Augusta High School football team. Now he has a firm grip on the next four years of his life, with help from Mars Hill College, near Asheville, N.C.
Morgan, the son of Rob and Mary Morgan, signed the paperwork March 6, confirming his plans to compete for the Lions as a scholarship recipient.
"He is the definition of a hard worker," in the words of assistant coach Louis Mackie, who coaches the Yellow Jackets' defensive backs. "He came in as a freshman a little undersized and worked in the weight room, and he was a very cerebral player, so (with) that work from the weight room and learning a lot of stuff on the tape and everything, he became one of our most solid defenders."
Morgan, a cornerback measuring 5-foot-9 and 160 pounds, started as both a junior and senior and had five interceptions during that period, including one for a touchdown.
Morgan said he plans to explore computer science in college. Describing himself as a player, he said he's solid defending aerial attacks and looks to improve against the run."I want to really practice on that," he said.
The Lions have "a very aggressive defense" and went 6-4 in the 2012 season. Morgan said he connected with the South Atlantic Conference college because of a videotape he sent out to various colleges.
