TalkBack: Bicyclists, Whitney Houston and trash pickup

Bicyclists

Bicyclists don't understand that, although they have the same rights as cars, they also should obey the same traffic laws that cars obey. I live near the intersection of Boardman Road and Two Notch Road. This is a four-way stop, and I have yet to see bike riders observe the stop sign.

Why so scared?

To the people who are scared in Aiken, what are you afraid of? What are you doing that you have to look behind your back all the time?

Taking responsibility

Thank you to whatever organization that was out cleaning the old bypass near Vaucluse on Saturday morning. It was so nice to see people out taking responsibility for our town.

Whitney

Whitney Houston: Why all the headlines? Another gifted artist turned drug addict.

Natural workers

Several recent TalkBacks have been about dead animals on the road where the writers wanted police or some other authority to take care of the problem. So, it was reassuring for me to see a dead skunk out on the bypass being efficiently disposed of by a crew of workers even before anyone complained. I couldn't identify the agency doing the work, but they all had matching uniforms. All five team members appeared to be fairly homely, were all in black and had scraggly red heads and yellow beaks. Anyway, whoever they were, it was rewarding to see workers do their job with such enthusiasm and a great work ethic.

What's wrong?

What is wrong with the Republicans? They vetoed the budget before it even got into the Senate.

Do something

Banks Mill Road is one of the most dangerous highways in Aiken County. It's too narrow and dark, and the volume of traffic is too heavy for this road to be safe. How many more bicyclists, moped drivers and others must be killed before we do something? Widen the road; make it off limits to cyclists, pedestrians and mopeds for their own safety or at least step up police presence. How many more deaths will it take? Aiken and Aiken County, please do something before we lose someone else.

Fair share

President Obama is preaching fair share. Fifty percent of Americans pay zero income taxes. What about their share?
