New place to eat
Anyone looking for a new unique place to eat in Aiken needs to try the new Indian cuisine restaurant inside the Hotel Aiken in downtown Aiken, "Chaugan." We ate there last night, and the food was fresh, plentiful and outstanding. The chef, Sunny Kalra, greeted us at our table and discussed the menu, the spice levels and what we might be interested in, answering all of our questions. We enjoyed the authentic Indian food and spices. The atmosphere is relaxing and comfortable, and the cost is reasonable. A plus is that Indian food is very healthy, no gluten, no MSG, no peanut oil. So far it's a well-kept secret but not for long I'm sure.
Sharing the road
While I agree that cyclists need to abide by the rules of the road and do everything to make themselves visible, it is the American motorist who needs to learn how to share the road. Most American drivers are terrible drivers and use cyclists, as well as motor bikes, for target practice. Europeans share the roads that are much smaller with everyone, and the death rate of cyclists is far lower than in the United States, which has a much higher number of cyclists on the roads. Driving in London, Paris or Rome may seem to be dangerous to most Americans however; because Europeans are far better drivers, it is safer than almost anywhere in the United States, particularly if you ride a bike. If you want proof on driving skills, go to any parking lot and watch people park; most don't have a clue about backing up.
Blowing leaves
Lawn care workers need to not blow dirt and leaves into the street. They made it almost impossible to see anything on Silver Bluff Road last week. An accident could happen just like in Florida.
Look on page 11
This is to the person who wrote in about unwanted telephone calls. Look on page 11 of your telephone book about unwanted calls. That will answer your question.
Fingers crossed
I understand that it took about 38 years for the Hitchcock Parkway road-widening project to get under way. Let's hope it takes at least 38 years for the sidewalk for USC Aiken to be completed, too, because that's about the biggest, stupid waste of money I've ever heard.
