Driver charged when tanker crashes, explodes in SC
BELTON -- Authorities say a tractor trailer crashed and flipped over in Anderson County, causing an explosion and spilling thousands of gallons of gasoline onto the road.
Authorities say the driver was traveling south near Belton on Tuesday when his truck ran off the left side of the road. He overcorrected and ran off the right side of the road, hitting a fence and power pole.
The tanker flipped onto its side. Power lines fell onto the tanker, igniting the fuel inside. Authorities say about half of the 9,000 gallons of gasoline in the truck spilled onto the road.
The driver was injured in the crash and taken to a hospital for treatment. Authorities say 46-year-old Jose Emilio Calderon of Easley was charged with driving too fast for conditions.
