LETTER: Give police more latitude
The judges are putting killers with long records of arrest and violence onto the streets. The South Carolina penal system is short of money. Let's get behind rules of engagement changes for the Aiken Public Safety Officers and allow them to approach with guns drawn until they understand what the nature of the person they have detained or encountered is. Officer Rogers was checking a suspicious car when she was killed. Office Richardson approached a car with during a routine traffic stop. We have to move to protect out police or we will have no protection.
