Talkback for Feb. 6: Talkbacks, Dead town, Turn signal, trash
Dead town
In response to the call on the ghost town TalkBack: Without SRS, Aiken would not be a ghost town, it would be a dead town because even the ghosts wouldn’t want to stay here.
Teary-eyed
I would like to respond to a thank you that the ADPS director gave in the Aiken Standard. It literally brought tears to my eyes. It makes me proud to say that I live in Aiken and that I’m from Aiken. It also brought tears to my eyes that just a few days after Officer Rogers was killed, that the people were playing, kids were swinging, people were walking their dogs that the community was saying “we’re going to take our park back.” I just want to say to all of the Aiken Department of Public Safety officers: Welcome, and we’re so thankful for you and for all that you do and for all those you serve.
Necessary comment
To the TalkBack comments in Saturday’s paper: This is a necessary comment. This is not to raise your blood pressure. Keep your hand off your phone, and slowly shift your eyes to another section of the paper. See? Problem solved. You’re welcome.
Turn signal
Only about 10 percent in Aiken know how to use the little lever on the left-hand side of their steering wheel. It’s called a turn signal.
TalkBack column
In regard to a comment in the paper Sunday about submitting TalkBacks anonymously, this is the place for someone to vent and to say their opinions. What they have to say may be negative, but it may make someone stop to think “Hey, I might be making a mistake” or “I need to trying to do something another way.” It’s not a way of saying that everyone’s going to like it.
Roadside trash
Thank you, thank you, thank you to the good people who worked so hard this past week along Hitchcock Parkway to clean up other people’s mess. It is a shame that the good people have to volunteer their time to pick up others’ trash. Why can’t they do that themselves? One day later, right next to the orange bags, you could already see new cans thrown right next to them. Why can’t the city get people who are in jail, uneducated, unemployed or on welfare to do this? Maybe it will teach them a lesson and learn something.
