Talkback for Feb. 5: Cracker Barrel road, TalkBack, Tree trimmers, Gun control
Are you serious?
I hope the comment about the road to Cracker Barrel was not serious. You could build an interstate system quicker than it took to pave that little road.
TalkBack comments
I am aware that TalkBack is for people who want to leave complaints or messages anonymously, but encouraging people to leave messages without a name or address tends to lead to rude and silly comments. If you have a complaint that you want to have answered or taken care of, why not just contact the people who can do something about it, instead of taking the time to publish your complaint anonymously which won't do anything? Does this column benefit anything at all? Can't we do better than this, or are we just going to fill the newspaper with unnecessary comments?
Tree trimmers
This rave is for the City of Aiken. Thank you for sending the tree trimming crews into the neighborhoods. I have regularly seen them working in the city parks, but it's nice to see my taxes paying for something closer to home.
Gun control
So distraught to see the responses to our latest tragedy and victim of gun violence not include an acknowledgment of the need for illegal gun control. An editorial said, "take control of our children, community." Why is everyone and anyone allowed to purchase and drive around with a concealed weapon and even a semi-automatic weapon in this red and ever-bloody state? Look at the statistics in Europe and even most elsewhere in this country. This can be addressed and controlled.
Call our TalkBack hot line at (803) 644-2384 and leave your message, or email it to us at editorial@aikenstandard.com. Readers' names are not necessary to make a comment and will not be published in the newspaper. Comments should be brief and to the point, and the Aiken Standard reserves the right to edit for space and content.
