Talkback: Slow lane, roadkill, gas prices, poisonous sugar

Call SCDOT

To the person complaining about the dead possum in the road, you don't call the county or city to remove the carcass. You call the South Carolina Department of Transportation. SCDOT's number is 641-7665. They don't know about dead animals unless you call.

Treasures

A recent visit to the Aiken SPCA Treasure Chest was a wonderful experience. The store was bright and clean, had good merchandise, great prices and a friendly atmosphere. In today's economy, this is the place to shop.

Roadkill

City of Aiken employees have better things to do than to clean every dead possum out of the road. People should clean up the dead possum themselves.

Poison?

Sugar and salt are poisonous for you, but not as poisonous as those artificial sweeteners. I'm allergic to it. I don't like having artificial sweeteners put in the foods at the restaurants.

Price of gas

Why is the price of gas here above the national average?

Thanks, SCE&G

A big thank you to Jason, Carey and Scott who work for the South Carolina Electric and Gas. They were so helpful when we had to move our gas meter so we could build our new front porch. And thank you to the county inspector who had to come out four times to inspect the work.

Half-naked

When I die, please do not put my picture next to a half-naked man.

Slow lane

In response to the person complaining about speeders to justify driving slowly in the left lane, there is no way that traffic in the left lane moves at 60 mph. Most slow drivers in Aiken are in the left-hand lane. Try going the speed limit and maybe people won't run up on your rear end so much. It's stupid to slam on brakes to deter a tailgater. You obviously didn't read the article in the Aiken Standard about the woman who caused an accident by slamming on her brakes for that same reason on the interstate. She was convicted of manslaughter after killing the driver in the other car.
