TalkBack: Singing praises, solar flares, kids coming home
Singing praises
Let it be known that Sheriff Hunt and his wife went beyond the call of duty to help my family in an emergency situation after hours Thursday evening. I will continue to sing his praises.
Solar flares
I just read in the Huffington Post that giant intense solar storms are hitting the Earth with the highest levels of solar radiation since the last big high point in 1995. Note to all "global warming alarmists," do you think this might be a bigger factor to any observed climate trends than the carbon dioxide that we love to exhale and that plants love to inhale? Have you seen any climate change models yet, showing solar activity as even a small contributor to climate change? It's like having a climate model for temperature changes in the living room and saying a heating trend is caused by everything except the fireplace. Hey, wait, maybe we can figure a way to blame these solar storms on " ... the failed policies of the Bush administration." Yeah, now that's the ticket!
Kids coming home
I'm getting a big kick out of reading these letters of children of all ages coming back home because they lost their jobs. They're not only upside-down; they're not making their payment anymore. The repo men are after them, debt collection agencies are calling them. Their only salvation is to call daddy to come get them. That was my daughter. They don't want you around, they don't want the house rule. They want to do their own thing.
Creation
Many years ago, I prayed to my maker to guide me from within, to assist, not control. I intentionally, have never read the Holy Bible or any other religious doctrine. As a scientist by occupation, I am amazed at the complexity of creation. To date, we have not been able to locate a similar planet in the infinite universe. There is a much higher intelligence in charge; our existence was not an accident.
Cracker Barrel
I observed that, on Wednesday, Jan. 25, the new Cracker Barrel road upgrade was substantially completed. I believe the City of Aiken, and perhaps the State of South Carolina, were responsible for completing this road. Congratulations to the City/State project management involved in this construction, for completing the project in sufficient (just-in-) time for the planned public opening of Cracker Barrel. Apparently, it was completed without incurring unnecessary overtime expense to the taxpayers.
