Society shares its sweets for a cause
The Sweet Charity Society invites women in the community to an afternoon of sherry and chocolates in February benefiting the American Red Cross Aiken County Chapter.
Chapter Executive Director Lindsay Findley said the organization is looking for compassionate women, who may be leaders in the community and who are interested in supporting the mission of the chapter and of the American Red Cross.
Findley said she would love to see about 100 women in attendance.
The women will be treated to a selection of sherry, chocolates and, new this year, chocolate wine while they mingle. Then, the Red Cross will give a presentation on the services the organization and Aiken County Chapter provides.
The Red Cross helps by responding to disasters, assisting members of the military, teaching lifesaving skills and serving as one of the largest blood suppliers in the United States.
Nationally, the Red Cross responds to an average of nearly 200 disasters every day. The organization provides an around-the-clock link between those in the military and their families and supplies blood and blood products to about 3,000 hospitals and transfusion centers across the country.
The Aiken County Chapter has responded and provided assistance after local disasters and helped hundreds of individuals and families in need. The chapter also helps military families send emergency messages, receive financial assistance and get counseling and referrals. The chapter trains individuals in First Aid, CPR and AED and water safety.
There is no cost to attend Sherry and Chocolates, but a donation of $100 inducts the donor in the Sweet Charity Society.
Sherry and Chocolates is Sunday, Feb. 12, from 2-4 p.m. at the Green Boundary Club, 780 Whiskey Rd.
For more information or to RSVP, contact Lindsay Findley by Feb. 3 at 641-4152 or at findleyl@usa.redcross.org.
