Friday is last day to enter wild game cook-off
The deadline to register for the Aiken County Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism's Wild Game Cook-Off is Friday for those who believe they have a winning recipe for fowl, venison and other small game.
Cooks will compete in four divisions: fowl, venison, pork and small game. The entry fee is $20. The Cook-Off will be held Saturday at Langley Pond beginning at 8 a.m. Spectators are welcome.
A cooking team may consist of an individual or a group up to four members. Teams can enter one dish per category.
Teams are encouraged to use wild game that they have harvested or game that was harvested by another hunter. All game must have been legally harvested.
Teams should provide samples for up to five judges. Also, teams are asked to provide at least 50-75 bite-size samples of the dish entered into the competition for spectators.
No wild game plates can be sold. Alcohol is not permitted on the grounds.
First-, second- and third-place awards will be will be given to the cooks with the best-tasting dishes in each division. There will also be a People's Choice and Judge's Choice award.
Access is available to the Wild Game Cook-Off site the night before.
Cook-Off teams are responsible for their own grills and smokers, pots and pans, serving utensils, extra chairs and tables if needed and tents if needed.

Haley Hughes will be a judge at the Wild Game Cook-Off. Hughes, a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University, hails from Knoxville, Tenn.
