Patriots, Jackets split season finale

Paul Knox Middle School, playing host to North Augusta in basketball Monday evening, avoided a season sweep by way of the Lady Patriots' 22-18 win.

The Patriots' boys, however, had a much rougher time, being steamrolled by a score of 54-19 against North Augusta.

The Yellow Jackets' top scorers, helping boost their team to an 8-5 record, were K.J. Abney, with 15 points; and Kip Thornton, with eight.

Paul Knox's boys were led by Molay Magwood, who scored 12 points. His squad finished the season at 1-12.

In the girls' game, Paul Knox's Alli Bell and Tanner Starnes had six points each, and teammate Mercedes Holmes added four. North Augusta's data were not available by press time.

Paul Knox's girls have won the conference title and are now to face Kennedy in the playoffs either Monday or Tuesday, according to Cheryl Morris, Paul Knox's coach. Her squad finished the regular season at 11-2.
