Talbert named CGA Player of the Year

Golf standout McKenzie Talbert is beginning 2012 with a couple of new honors to her credit.

The Strom Thurmond High School junior was named Jan. 17 as the Carolinas Golf Association's "Richard St. Tufts Player of the Year" among junior girls. A CGA report noted that the award is "to honor Carolinas amateur golfers who had exceptional individual tournament performances over the preceding year."

Another CGA report from Jan. 16 noted that she also bagged her third straight Carolinas Girls Player of the Year award "by winning the CPGA Charles Tilghman Junior, the SCJGA Fall Championship and the SC Junior Match Play Championship along with finishing as the runner-up in the Vicki Disanstis Girls' Championship and the Joe Cheves Junior and a tying for third place in the Carolinas Girls' Championship."

The Tufts prize is named after a longtime CGA leader and is based on CGA amateur rankings at the end of each calendar year.
