Lynn leads team to flag football title
Jason Lynn, known to some as a member of the radio team for North Augusta High School football, has a new trophy in his collection these days, having been the quarterback of a national-championship football team.
The North Augusta resident, in action Jan. 13-15 in the U.S. Flag and Touch League tournament, helped the Aiken Supersonics to a 5-0 record, with a 14-0 win over a Tampa team in the championship game.
The tournament, held in Orlando, wound up with Lynn named as the MVP on offense and teammates Blake Murphy and Ryan Scott as MVPs on defense and special teams, respectively. Russ Hamilton, from North Augusta, served as head coach and also played.
Named as other top performers in the tournament were Daniel Fincher (also from North Augusta), Travis Mitchem and Corey Jones, all on defense; and Steven Ocak, Brett Godwin (of North Augusta) and Rod West, all on offense.
"This was our first trip down to this tournament, and it was unbelievable to come away with a national title. After being told by several players on our rival team AGS Elite in the Aiken league that we wouldn't win a game down there if we went, it gave us the motivation we needed to go down there and make a statement," Lynn noted.
"We'd been talking about it for a couple of years, and we finally got the money together and went," he said. "It was awesome."
