Fox Creek splits exciting twin bill
Fox Creek High School's basketball fans got a double dose of high drama Friday evening against Hunter-Kinard-Tyler, with a pair of close Region 4-A games at Sweetwater Baptist Church.
In the opener, Keianna Greene's 18-point performance helped boost the home team to a 41-36 overtime win, buoyed by Dominique Moore's 12-point contribution.
Fox Creek's girls improved their record to 5-6 overall and 4-5 in the region.
The boys, meanwhile, continued to struggle in region action. They fell behind 12-0 in the opening minutes but charged back to hold a 27-26 lead at the half, en route to a 73-64 loss.
The Predators' Quadre Castleberry dominated in scoring, pumping in 32 points. Joining him in double digits were D.J. Curry, at 14; and Deondre Baskett, at 10.
Fox Creek's next challenge was to have been Tuesday action at home against Wagener-Salley, starting the second half of the region schedule.
Remaining home games are to be Friday against Denmark-Olar, Feb. 7 versus Williston-Elko and Feb. 9 against Ridge Spring-Monetta.
Saturday's play, in addition, will be in a high-profile setting, with Augusta State University's court as the site for a contest with Fox Creek's boys facing off against the Augusta Eagles, a team composed of home-schoolers. Play is to begin at noon.
All other remaining game times are listed as 6 p.m.
