NeSmith, Talbert shine at Mt. Vintage
NeSmith, Talbert win at Mt. Vintage
Local golfers Matt NeSmith and McKenzie Talbert bagged first place in their respective divisions Monday in the Carolina Georgia Junior Championship, held at Mount Vintage Plantation, in Edgefield County.
NeSmith, a senior at North Augusta High School, won the boys' division, shooting a 145 - 68 in the first round and 77 in the second. Winning the girls' division was Talbert, a junior at Strom Thurmond. She scored 149 - 75 in the first round and 74 in the second.
Soccer tourney set for Jan. 28-29
Six-on-six soccer tournaments for boys, girls, men and women are set for Jan. 28 and 29 at Lions Field, in association with GA/SC Bulls soccer club.
The first day's action is to include various divisions for teams boys, girls, men and women, while the second day's play is to be co-ed. Registration is $150 per team, and details are at www.csrasoccer.blogspot.com.
Steak supper to benefit Jackets
A steak supper to benefit the North Augusta Yellow Jacket Club is set for Saturday at the North Augusta Community Center.
Tickets for the 7 p.m. event are $50 each and cover "steak or grilled chicken breast, baked potato, salad, and green beans, drinks, and dessert." All participants will be eligible for door prizes.
Proceeds are to support North Augusta High School's baseball and softball teams - a new scoreboard and infield renovation work for the baseball squad; and new dugouts, a new scoreboard and new batting cages for the softball squad.
Tickets may be purchased from members of the North Augusta Yellow Jacket Club. Information is available from Hank Hammond (279-0180) and Rick Meyer (441-4301).
