Check out the 'Inside Job' at USCA

As part of the University of South Carolina Aiken's ongoing 50th anniversary celebration, USCA's School of Business will offer a film and discussion event on Feb. 16 featuring the Academy Award-winning documentary "Inside Job."

The event will take place at 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, in USC Aiken's Penland Administrative Building, Room 106. The film and discussion is open to the public at no cost and is part of an ongoing film/discussion series the School of Business has been offering this year. The School of Business featured its first film as part of the 50th anniversary celebration in September, spotlighting the movie "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" - a lighthearted musical based on the 1961 hit Broadway show. The film was chosen partly due to its connection to 1961 - the same year USC Aiken was founded.

Continuing the 50th Anniversary theme, the current film takes viewers to the present and the struggles with getting the nation's economy rolling again. The film "Inside Job" documents how the economy got into its present depressed state, going back to the economic crisis of 2008, with a thorough and engaging presentation of the circumstances underlying the economic meltdown. The film earned an Academy Award for Best Documentary. According to the film's official website, "The global financial meltdown, at a cost of over $20 trillion, resulted in millions of people losing their homes and jobs. Through extensive research and interviews with major financial insiders, politicians and journalists, Inside Job traces the rise of a rogue industry and unveils the corrosive relationships which have corrupted politics, regulation and academia."

The film is narrated by Academy Award winner Matt Damon. The interim dean of USCA's School of Business will introduce the film and lead a discussion afterwards. For more information about the film's showing, contact Dr. David Harrison at 641-3340.
