Predators prints for Feb. 16-22

Last week at Fox Creek High School was exceptionally busy. Both the students and teachers were preparing for a variety of activities, such as the school Science Fair. First place winner in the chemistry category, Christina Fowler, said, "I had a fun time working with my friend, Lainie Hollifield. We never expected to win first place, but we worked very hard for it."

Second place winner for the chemistry category, MK Jenkins, commented, "It was fun setting things on fire for my project. I'm very happy and surprised that I won second place."

All of the students who entered created wonderful projects and the judges a hard time deciding the winners.

Ricky Jones is preparing to audition for Governor's School. After school one day last week, he presented a dramatic monologue and brought tears to the small audience who stayed to watch and give encouragement.

Additionally, seniors Sam Alexander and Ginny Simmons will be interviewing for Teaching Fellows in March. Out of the 925 students who applied, 395 were granted interviews.

The Miss Fox Creek pageant was also a success. All of the girls (and their 10 escorts) had a blast and put on a wonderful show. The PTCA did an excellent job organizing the show, food, decorations and entertainment with the help of Ms. Nancy Cowart, pageant director.

The school is excited to announce that it has joined the South Carolina Public Charter School District. Students from any county in South Carolina may now attend Fox Creek High School for free. The school is already growing due to this decision. In the past week several new students have joined the Fox Creek family, and Dr. Tim Murph is giving potential students and their parents tours of the school almost every day.

The baseball and softball teams have started their seasons. Fox Creek's baseball team, coached by Wes Brown, played a scrimmage game against Silver Bluff High School on Feb. 6. The team played well but suffered a loss. They plan to come back strong this year. The softball team, coached by David Bell, played its first scrimmage in the freezing wind against Wagner High School and Batesburg High School at Fox Creek's softball field. The day was a success; the chicken dinners added delicious concessions, too.

Last Thursday night was senior night for the male and female basketball players. This is always a bitter sweet night - hopes for the future but regrets of leaving a team where most of the players have played all four years.
