The Bee's Buzz
Reading is All the Buzz
Do you know what AR means? If your answer is "No," you aren't alone.
AR stands for Accelerated Reader, a reading program used by our school. It simply means, when you have read a book, you can take a test on that book to gain points. At our school we have a large "Wall of Fame" where students who reach their grade level point goal get to have their picture posted. Those students will also be recognized at graduation as having achieved their goal.
I interviewed a few readers to see what they thought about the AR program and this is what I discovered. My classmate Hannah Spivey said that AR is important because it encourages reading, which builds vocabulary and is educational.
Another classmate, Lana Medlock, enjoys the AR program because of how our teacher celebrates it.
"AR is fun because you get to go to the AR pizza party and AR Luau at the end of the year when you earn enough points. This encourages me to read more," Lana said.
My teacher, Ms. Mock, believes that reading will take us beyond our wildest dreams. She has a treasure box in her room that she loads with amazing prizes and rewards for students who meet the AR goal. She also loves to talk with us about our books and see what we're excited about reading.
The AR program promotes reading more and reading often. I hope that someday you will join the HHE Bees and become an Accelerated Reader.
