Grace CDC selling coupon books

Grace United Methodist Church's Child Development Center is selling restaurant coupon books through Friday, Feb. 17, in the church office and in the CDC office.

The cost is $10. The books contain buy-one-get-one-free offers at local restaurants.

The fundraiser will benefit Grace's CDC.

St. Paul to hold Mardi Gras dinner, dance

The fourth annual Mardi Gras party on the river is slated this year for Friday, Feb. 17, at 7 p.m.

There will be food, with live music and dancing.

All proceeds will aid those in the community who are unable to provide food security for themselves and their families.

Tickets are available from Outreach members, from the church office at (706) 724-2485, online at www.saintpauls.org and at the door. No host wine and beer will be available. A costume is optional.

Grace Singles going bowling Saturday

Grace United Methodist Church Singles (35 to 55 years old) will join together for bowling this Saturday, Feb. 18, at 2 p.m. at Northside Lanes. Parents are encouraged to bring their kids.

Belvedere FBC to celebrate 90 years

Belvedere First Baptist Church's 90th-anniversary celebration is set for Sunday, Feb. 19, with a theme of "Remembering the Past - Looking to the Future." The celebration service will start at 10 a.m., and the guest speaker is to be James Austin, executive director of the South Carolina Baptist Convention. All are welcome. Holy Trinity Anglican to host pancake dinner

The Church of the Most Holy Trinity (Anglican) will host a pancake dinner for Mardi Gras, Fat Tuesday, on Tuesday, Feb. 21 from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

The dinner is $3 per plate (children under 12 eat free), and all proceeds and donations will go to the Augusta Rescue Mission.

Fr. Rob Hartley explained Shrove Tuesday is a centuries-old tradition. The name Shrove has its root in an old word meaning "to confess."

Mt. Transfiguration to hold black history play

Mount Transfiguration Baptist Church will hold a Black History play on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 3 p.m. The play is titled "If You Want to Laugh, Go to Church."

Grace UMC hosts Shrove Tuesday dinner

Grace United Methodist Men and the United Methodist Youth Fellowship will host a traditional pancake supper on Shrove Tuesday, the night before Lent begins.

The meal is set for Feb. 21 in the Wesley Center and includes pancakes, sausage and assorted toppings.

Then on Ash Wednesday, Grace will hold a service in the church sanctuary at 6:30 p.m. following the regular WINGS meal at 5:30 p.m.

Shrove Tuesday pancakes at HTLC

The Lutheran Men of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church will have a pancake supper on Shrove Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 6:30 p.m.

Donations will be accepted to help cover the cost of the meal.

Shrove Tuesday dinner at Fairview Presbyterian

Fairview Presbyterian Church will hold a Shrove Tuesday pancake dinner on Tuesday, Feb. 21, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. The meal is free.

St. Bartholomew's makes plans for Lent

St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church will begin Lent with a Shrove Tuesday dinner the night before. On Feb. 21 beginning at 5:30 p.m. the men and youth at St. Bart's will prepare the meal.

St. Bart's will then hold two services on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 22. The traditional service is set for 10 a.m. and a child-friendly service at 6:30 p.m.

At 6 p.m. before the Ash Wednesday service, members of St. Bartholomew's will gather in the parish hall to make pretzels before the service. Pretzels were a traditional substitute for leavened bread during Lent and were often given out to the poor during that time.

In addition, the church will host Lent fish fries on three Fridays during Lent.

The first is set for Friday, Feb. 24, followed by March 9 and 23. The dinner time is 6 to 7 p.m.

During each dinner there are fried fish takeout plates available for $6.50 each. They include fried fish, fries, hush puppies and coleslaw.

A fish sandwich plate is $6.50 as well with the same sides.

Those who wish to eat-in can do so for $7.

Church members will also offer grits as a substitute for the fries.

Proceeds will go to missions and other St. Bart ministries.

'Some Enchanted Evening' coming up

Trinity on Laurens, the Lutheran senior community in downtown Aiken, will host its major fundraising event of the year, Some Enchanted Evening, on Friday, Feb. 24, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Aiken Center for the Arts. There will be food, spirits, music and a silent and live auction. Funds raised support Trinity's endowment, which helps Trinity offer a limited financial grant program to deserving residents.

'Italian Cafe' offers dinner by Holy Trinity youth

The youth at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church will host a fundraiser dinner on Saturday, Feb. 25 in the Fellowship Hall.

The "Italian Cafe" will feature spaghetti/homemade sauces, along with lasagna, salad, bread, dessert and drinks.

The cost is $8 for adults and $2 for children 10 and under.

All of the proceeds will be used to help offset the cost of the youth and adults who will be attending the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America National Youth Gathering in New Orleans in July of this year.

Carey Hill Baptist Church will host an educational black history banquet on Saturday, Feb. 25, beginning at 6 p.m.

The Rev. George Brightharp, pastor of Mt. Canaan Baptist Church, will be the guest speaker.

Also, Thelma J. Robinson of Aiken will serve as the guest soloist.

The tickets to the event are $20 for adults and $10 for school-aged children.

Lydia Project cutting project

The Lydia Project will host a cutting day at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on Saturday, Feb. 25, beginning at 9 a.m. in the fellowship hall.

Jobs include cutting bags, linings, tops and pockets; writing notes of encouragement; organizing packets as bag cuttings are completed; and possibly cutting purple handles.

The Lydia Project cutting day is combined with the normally scheduled Loaves and Fishes quilting day once every six weeks.

Concert to be at Mt. Transfiguration

Mt. Transfiguration Baptist Church will sponsor a concert featuring its Tabernacle and Friendship Choirs on Feb. 25 at 5 p.m.

Italian Cafe returns to Holy Trinity

On Saturday evening, Feb. 25, the youth at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church will host the Italian Café.

This is a fundraising event for the upcoming ELCA National Youth Gathering which will be held in July in New Orleans.

The meal will consist of spaghetti with homemade sauces, lasagna and fettuccine, as well as a side salad, Italian bread, drinks and desserts.

Women in Unity to hold banquet

The annual banquet of Women In Unity will be held on Feb. 25 at 6 p.m. in the fellowship hall of Antioch Baptist Church, located at 1843 Highway 23 in Edgefield.

Join Apples of Gold Bible study

The Apples of Gold Bible study at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church now includes 19 women.

The group's first session was spent getting to know one another and sharing food and fellowship.

The remainder of the sessions will be Feb. 12, Feb. 26, March 11, March 25, April 15 and April 21. Anyone interesting in joining the Bible study can meet at 5:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall on those dates.

'Camp-In' for kids at FBC

First Baptist Church, North Augusta, will hold a "Camp-In" for grades 1 through 5 on Friday, March 9, beginning at 6 p.m. through Saturday, March 10 at 8 a.m.

Dinner and breakfast will be provided. There will be games, a movie and a glow-in-the-dark tag.
