Wrinkles

111There are many hilarious stories that Helen and I would like to tell about the entire colonoscopy adventure, but I am sure Phyllis would refuse to print them. It's even good to laugh when you're in dire stress sometimes.

All the shouting, mud slinging is over for South Carolina now but we're sure it won't end until a president is elected. What a shame the candidates could not fight the issues of all that has taken place instead of personal attacks. It seems so juvenile for adults to guide the future generations into this type of political action. Wouldn't it be great if just one person would stand up and say, "Don't pay me anything over a regular salary; just let me show you that I can lead this great country to even greater heights by using my brain, selecting good people and stopping the infighting." I guess we can dream that there could be a statesman/woman who could lead without greed. It is going to be one of the most important elections this country has even seen, so take the time to study the issues, the candidates and work for what you believe in.

Sometimes we read about issues and think we should make a statement and don't. But this time I will, regarding the note on Officer Strauss shooting a dog. I have had contact many years with Officer Strauss when he was on animal control. Due to living with woods behind our home, we have been pestered for many years with wild animals such as possums who come on the porch, bother Meow-Meow the cat and lash out at us when we try to shoo them away.

I have been an animal lover all my life but sometimes one has to take a stand to protect life and limb. We bought a trap to try to rid our yard of these pests, and when one was caught in the trap, we would call animal control and Officer Strauss would come pick them up. I have never seen him harm these creatures who were trying to claw and bite him. I still remember the morning I was standing on the deck when he came to pick up a possum, and when he did, all I saw was many, many little babies crawling out ... thinking she was having babies, I spoke up in horror, but he laughed and taught me about possums having little pouches and all 16 little possums were crawling out from there. I have found him to be one of the most compassionate people regarding animals that I have ever known and know that there must have been no other way to handle the situation with the dog than what he did.

As to the complainers regarding the traffic "cops" of North Augusta, all I can say is "go gettum." Every time I am in the turn lane on Martintown Road into Bunting Drive, I hold my breath as cars actually shake my car when they drive by so fast. One inch closer and there will be a terrible accident! The majority of the tags I have seen are Georgia cars, so it's OK with me for them to leave a little of that out of state money to just maybe lower our taxes over here.

"Work as if it were your last day. Forgive as soon as possible. Love without boundaries. Laugh without control, and never stop smiling."
