Belvedere Woman's Club installs new officers

The Belvedere Woman's Club recently held an installation of officers and celebration of the end of the year's activities.
Installed for the 2008-2010 term were president Mary Tipton, vice president Jane Johnson, second vice president Evelyn Johnson, third vice president Betty Sutton-Usry, corresponding secretary Patsy Surbaugh, recording secretary Elaine Vaughn, treasurer Frances Rearden, historian Evelyn Johnson and chaplain Ann Green Robinson.
In addition to the installation the 2008 Woman of the Year award was presented to Betty Sutton-Usry for her tireless efforts in support of the Belvedere Woman's Club.
The group likewise reported that the Elizabeth Bradley Scholarship of $1,000 was presented to Ronald Joseph Stanley on May 22 at the North Augusta High School awards day. Joseph was ranked third in the class of 2008 and was, as a result, the winner of the Ed Stillwell Awad.
The Belvedere Woman's Club is part of the western district of the General Federation of Women's Clubs in South Carolina. It was formed in 1955.
Among the club's current projects are providing for the needs at Helping Hands, books for Nancy Carson Library, valentines for residents at the Georgia War Veterans Home, Easter baskets for the abused children's center, a conservation essay contest at Belvedere Elementary School, Blue Bird Trail and the Belvedere Girls' softball team.
The Belvedere Woman's Club meets on the third Thursday of each month September through May. The next meeting is Sept. 18 at 6 p.m. at the group's clubhouse, 104 Elizabeth Ave., Belvedere.
