North Augustan jailed on hold-up charges

A North Augusta man accused of holding up a New Ellenton convenience store in March has been jailed.
Matthew Lee Johnson, 30, of Georgetown Street, is charged with armed robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and failure to stop for blue lights and siren.
Investigators say the robber told the clerk at the Hot Spot on Highway 19 that he was armed with a knife the evening of March 19, when he obtained money "by force." During the police search for the man, the vehicle the 30-year-old was said to be driving passed an officer who then turned on his lights, but the driver refused to stop, according to arrest warrants.
