How I long for those simple old family recipes

Granny Weisenberger' easy cobbler

Start with 1 cup self-rising flour, 2/3 block of margarine, 1 cup of sugar, 2/3 cup of flour, 1 large can peaches or fruit, 1 tsp. cinnamon.
Melt butter in a baking dish. Mix flour, milk, sugar, and cinnamon; pour over butter. Spoon peaches and some juice over. You can bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 50 minutes or until brown. Granny had a dairy farm and her kitchen always smelled of heavenly aromas.

Mrs. Mildred's green bean casserole

Start with 1 cup French style green beans; 1 cup shoe peg corn; 1/4 cup chopped bell pepper; 1/4 cup of chopped celery; 1/2 cup of onions cut; 1 cup of cream of celery soup; 1/2 pint of sour cream; and 1/2 cup of oleo.
Mix first seven ingredients. Place in greased casserole dish. Crush Ritz crackers and place on top of casserole. Spoon melted oleo on top of crackers. You can bake at 325 degrees for 45 minutes. Mrs. Mildred is from D'Iberville, La. She was a sweet and warm lady with plenty of Southern charm.

Big Momma's tea cakes

Start with 1 cup of butter, 1 heaping cup of sugar, 2 eggs, 1/2 tsp. salt, dash of granulated sugar, 1 tsp. baking soda, 3 cups of flour, 3 tbsp. of buttermilk, 1 tsp. vanilla.
Cream butter and sugar; add eggs. Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk/vanilla mixture. Spoon tablespoon-size drops of batter on slightly greased cookie sheet and sprinkle with a dash of granulated sugar. Bake at 350 degrees for 8-13 minutes depending on how large the tea cakes are. (This recipe was from "The Grand Ole Opry" star, Jerry Clower's mother). He called her, "Big Momma," even thought she was a very petite Southern lady.

A smile is heart healthy food
Two elderly ladies meet at the launderette after not seeing one another for some time. After inquiring about each other's health, one asked how the other's husband was doing.
"Oh! Ted died last week. He went out to the garden to dig up a cabbage for dinner, had a heart attack and dropped down dead right there in the middle of the vegetable patch!"
"Oh dear! I'm very sorry," replied her friend, "What did you do?"
"Opened a can of peas instead."
