Fox Creek softball bumped out of playoffs
Amanda Schneider's squad has seen plenty of South Carolina over the past couple of weeks, but she and her players are now getting a break -- against their will, courtesy of McBee High School's softball team.
McBee dumped Fox Creek in the playoffs Monday evening by a 10-0 score, silencing the visitors' bats almost entirely. "I think we just hit a wall, and it wasn't our game," Schneider said, pointing out that her team had logged 1,200 miles in a week.
"McBee is an awesome team. They're a great hitting team, and they just exploded. They did great," said Schneider. She noted that her team wound up with an overall record of 19-6 and its second straight Region 4-A title.
"Melissa Roberts got a couple of hits" versus McBee, the coach added. "We just couldn't seem to get anything working for us."
Shelby Smith, who normally handles first base for Fox Creek, was out due to injury, and Schneider put Alex Bugg (normally a leftfielder) into her place, and installed Kayla Sizemore (usually a designated hitter) at Bugg's traditional post.
Schneider also noted that prospects are extremely bright for the 2009 campaign, as this year's Fox Creek team only had one senior, centerfielder Cheryl Grubbs, and some strong middle-school talent is on its way.
