Star Player of the Week
Loranzo Hammonds is the Star Player of the Week, having thrown for five touchdowns and racked up 331 all-purpose yards in North Augusta High School's comeback win against Lexington, helping to cement the Yellow Jackets' playoff standing.
Hammonds, whose parents are Kimberly Hammonds and Loranzo Hammonds, had 19 completions and 22 attempts for 266 yards and added 65 rushing yards via 11 carries. A junior, he is listed at 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds.
"He's done a great job all year," said Dan Pippin, North Augusta's coach. He noted that two of Hammonds' incomplete passes were in the Jackets' first two drives. Once he got beyond that point, he connected on about 17 of 18 attempts, the coach estimated.
This is Hammonds' second time this season to be selected as the team's top contributor. He was also chosen following the Jackets' win against Richmond Academy.
His passing data for the season include 176 attempts, 138 completions and 1,793 yards, with 25 touchdowns and three interceptions. Rushing, he has nine touchdowns via 125 carries and 771 yards for an average of 6.2 yards per haul.
