Star Player of the Week
Ricky Cervantes, a defensive tackle, is the Star Player of the Week in honor of his role in the Yellow Jackets' 35-0 romp against Richland Northeast.
A junior listed at 5-foot-9 and 220 pounds, Cervantes was "just very consistent," in the words of Dan Pippin, the Jackets' coach. "He made a lot of plays on the line of scrimmage. I thought he played very well."
Cervantes wound up with 12 tackles, including one for a loss and six solo tackles. This is his second season as a starter.
Pippin commented, "He's got great leverage. He's very strong. When you have a defensive tackle get that many tackles, that's saying a lot. That's something, especially with the kids we've got around him. I mean, it's not like there aren't other people to make tackles. He got 12, and that's pretty good."
