Swim team setting records
Temperatures are rising while records are falling these days, at least among the members of Hammond Hills Suburban Club's swim team.
The youngest of the bunch so far has been Emily Sam, in the 9- and 10-year-old girls category. She is the club's record-holder in the 25-yard breaststroke, having done the job in 17.87.
Among the 11- and 12-year-old girls, the quartet of Carly May, Cassandra Hooper, Katy Lewis and Kelsey Williams recently reset the standard for the 200-yard individual medley, via a time of 2:08.55, and the foursome of Katy Lewis, Carly May, Jenny Lewis and Kelsey Williams did the same in the 200-yard freestyle relay at 1:57.09.
Joseph Coleman has shaken things up among the 13- and 14-year-old competitors, including a resetting of the standards in the 50-yard freestyle, now at 23.84; and the 50-yard backstroke, now 28.33.
He joined with Jessie Dollar, Eric Collins and Bentley Sam to raise the bar in the 200-yard individual medley, with a new record of 2:01.45; and with the same three to topple the record in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The new standard is 1:48.70.
The Hammerheads have completed their home season. North Augusta Golf and Country Club's team, however, has one home meet remaining: Tuesday versus Farmington, starting at 6 p.m.
