Hall of Fame to honor local sports achievers and standouts at banquet
Some of the most prominent names in the history of local sports are on the guest list Saturday evening at Grace United Methodist Church for this year's induction event for the North Augusta Sports Hall of Fame.
The annual banquet, to be held at the Wesley Center, is set for 6 p.m. The primary honorees will be Lee Sheridan, Ralph Sapp, Pat Collins and the late Paul Knox.
The list of Sertoma Athletes of Distinction has been released more recently. Honorees and their respective areas of excellence are Al Lown, Charles Coleman, Loranzo Hammonds, Matt Hazel and Montel Hughes, all in football; Lindsey Jones and Aubrey Lamar, both in softball; Tyler Colvin and Zach Cooper, both in baseball; McKenzie Talbert and Jessica Hoang, both in golf; Keely Gillespie, cross-country; Ben Mottel, soccer; William Rudisill, track; Mark Shells, bicycling; and Sawlan Atkinson, running.
Tickets, at $17 each, are available at Sno-Cap, SMS SportsWorld, North Augusta Chamber of Commerce, The Star, Parks Pharmacy, Jim Bush Flower Shop and CommuniGraphics.
Details are available from John Felak, chairman of the North Augusta Sports Commission, at 215-6056.
