Adopt a pet
The Aiken County Animal Services appeared on the adopt a pet segment of NBC Augusta on Oct. 28. Pictured are Raquel Williams, vet tech, appears with three fluffy kittens -- Tyra and Haley are tortoiseshell 11-week-old females, and Snuggles, their brother, is black and white -- and Sandy Larsen with Buford, a 2-year-old Dachshund/Chihuahua mix. All pets are up to date on vaccinations and have been or will be spayed or neutered. For more information, call 642-1537 or visit the shelter at 411 Wire Road. The Friends of the Aiken County Animal Shelter (FOTAS) will host a Pet-a-Fair at the shelter on Saturday, Nov. 21. Whit Gibbons, with the Savannah River Ecology Laboratory, will give an animal presentation, and dog groomers, sitters and trainers will be on hand. There will be a raffle for a year's supply of pet food by Petsmart and a drawing for free spaying and neutering coupons. Shelter dogs and cats will be available for adoption. Also, the shelter is in need of volunteers to walk dogs and socialize the animals. A picture was shown on TV of Sophie, a Chihuahua missing from her North Augusta West Avenue home. A rescue beagle dug out of the owner's fence and the Chihuahua followed. Call Anna Smith at (706) 589-2472 if you have found or know of someone who has found a brown and white Chihuhua or a missing beagle.
