Concert to honor Rahes
For the second year, the University of South Carolina Aiken will host a concert in honor of donors Pres Rahe, Jr. and Jerry Ann Rahe to benefit an endowment fund for the choral department.
The concert will be held Friday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. at Banksia, the Aiken County Historical Museum. Proceeds from the concert with benefit the E. Preston Rahe Jr. and Jerry Ann Rahe Choral Program Endowment Fund. A reception will be held at the conclusion of the concert.
The concert will feature Canticum Novum, an auditioned ensemble specializing in the performance of early music as well as contemporary literature appropriate for the small ensemble. For this concert, the ensemble will be an all-women group. The title of the concert, Music When Soft Voices Die, is taken from a poem by Shelley and is also the title of one of the songs by composer Charles Wood which will be performed that evening. The themes of this concert are love and adoration. The program will feature additional works by Holst, Rheinberger and other composers. Canticum Novum is led by Dr. Joel Scraper, Director of Choral Activities at USC Aiken.
The Endowment Fund was established by Washington Savannah River Company in honor of Mr. Rahe's recent retirement. A member of USC Aiken's Board of Directors, Mr. Rahe, along with the Washington Savannah River Company, has played a vital role in providing funding for the University over the years.
Tickets for the event are $20 and may be purchased by calling the Etherredge Center box office at 641-3305. Banksia, Aiken County's Historical Museum, is located at 433 Newberry St. NW in downtown Aiken.
