Miss Mitchum weds Mr. Mikell at Georgia Southern


Miss Anna Lee Mitchum became the bride of Mr. Matthew Shane Mikell, both of Augusta, Ga., on April 25, 2009, at Georgia Southern Botanical Garden in Statesboro, Ga. Pastor Phillip Hamilton of North Augusta and the Rev. Rance Sprayberry of Greenville, great-uncle of the bride, performed the 4 p.m. ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David L. Mitchum of North Augusta.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joey Mikell of Lake Park, Ga., and of Ms. Elizabeth Splichal of Gainesville, Fla.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore an A-line ivory gown with a halter neckline and side-draped bodice with beaded lace. Her veil was a handcrafted replica of her mother's veil with lace detail along the edges. She wore pearl earrings borrowed from her sister (her maid of honor), a diamond necklace given by her paternal grandmother and diamond and blue topaz bracelet, a gift from her fiancé. She carried a handkerchief given to her by her late paternal grandfather and a bouquet of white hydrangeas and blue delphiniums, which was adorned with an antique brooch given to her by her late maternal grandmother.
Miss Katherine Mitchum of North Augusta was her sister's maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Twyla Wofford of Columbia; Miss Haley Mitchum, cousin of the bride, of Snellville, Ga.; Mrs. Kelly Meikle of Savannah, Ga.; Mrs. Liz McKinney, sister of the groom, of Melbourne, Fla.; and Miss Sarah Flick of Charleston. The honor attendants wore navy blue cap sleeve tea-length dresses with a satin ruched waist. They carried blue hydrangeas.
Mr. Rob Bishop of Atlanta, Ga., and Mr. Stephen Holmes of Phoenix, Ariz., served as the best men. Groomsmen were Mr. Bradley Mitchum, cousin of bride, of Snellville, Ga.; Mr. Andrew Jones of Statesboro, Ga.; and Mr. Eric McKinney, brother-in-law of groom, of Melbourne, Fla.
A reception was held at The Parkwood Conference Center, Statesboro, Ga. Keeping the bride's book was Miss Kori Williams of Savannah, Ga. Mrs. Ann Amos of Gainvesville, Fla., aunt of the groom, cut the cake.
Others assisting included wedding directors Mrs. Sandi Kirkland and Mrs. Jaime Riggs, both of Statesboro, Ga., and music director Mrs. Mandy Lane of Statesboro, Ga.
The bride's mother wore a navy blue tea-length satin dress with blue-green accents and navy blue satin wrap. The groom's mother chose a navy blue suit with white accents. They wore corsages of baby white roses.
Following a wedding trip to St. Augustine and Key West, Fla., Mr. and Mrs. Mikell are making their home in Augusta.
Special guests included the bride's maternal grandfather, Mr. H.O. Sprayberry of LaGrange, Ga.; her paternal grandmother, Mrs. Gladys Mitchum of Manchester, Ga.; and the groom's paternal grandmother, Ms. Katherine Reid of Lake City, Ga.
