Museum theater program makes history come alive




The Augusta Museum of History's newest program - Voices of the Past -- continues in 2010. Voices of the Past is a series of character monologues presented in museum theater format that brings to life the stories of ordinary and extraordinary people and is supported through grant funding from the Porter Fleming Foundation.

The program continues with performances scheduled at 11:30 a.m., 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. for a variety of dates.


A Petersburg Boat Pilot, based on oral histories provided about a man who during the mid-nineteenth century until 1900, crewed and piloted cotton boats from Petersburg to Augusta will be performed on Feb. 20, March 2, April 10, May 8, June 5 and July 24.

The Other Tubmans tells a story that explains the connection between local Tubman slaves freed in the 1830s and William Tubman, who served as Liberia, Africa's longest running President from 1944-1971 and will be performed on Feb. 6, March 6, April 17 and May 1.
