This week at Fox Creek many special events have been going on. With Red Ribbon Week, the final football game of the 2009 season, basketball season right around the corner and the seniors' Phase One deadline for their senior projects being due, very soon things are busy-busy-busy for the students and faculty at Fox Creek.
Red Ribbon Week is a week set aside to talk about and raise drug awareness to the community. Highlighting this year's awareness and concentration on better things to do than drugs, on Wednesday the senior girls hosted an assembly for all the girls in the school and the woman in their lives called "Save the Ta Ta's" in honor of breast cancer awareness month.
Guest speakers came and talked to the girls about breast cancer and they also did a walk for breast cancer around the school building. With the sale of T-shirts and general collections, a check for $1,600 was presented for breast cancer research.
On Friday Fox Creek had an assembly when Brian Hensley came and spoke to the students about his experiences with substance abuse and how it has affected every part of his life and how he has overcome those obstacles. He warned students about the ills of drinking and taking drugs. Also on Friday, the Fox Creek cheerleaders hosted a pep rally for the students to pump everyone up for the last football game of the 2009 season.
The Predators pulled through with a win over Ridge-Spring Monetta, which is a great way to finish off the season. Many of the senior players said that they are going to miss all the other boys that they have played with because they have all become like brothers to them.
Another exciting event happening at Fox Creek is basketball season with the players preparing mentally and which will be here before we know it. Practices are about to start back up, so the coaches and players are getting it in gear.
The coaches say they are going to be trying some new techniques this season to switch things up a little.
One of the other taking place at Fox Creek is the seniors Phase One deadline for their senior projects, which is Nov. 5. They have all been working hard to get everything together and finalized to turn in. Completing this project with a passing grade is one determiner for walking in graduation.
With the first quarter behind us - and parents having picked up report cards - things are sure to stay busy for the students and faculty at Fox Creek for this new nine weeks. Upcoming events include fruit sales, poinsettia sales, soft drink sales, yard sale and the Powder Puff game that happens just before the Thanksgiving break. That event will be Nov. 23 at 6:30 p.m. on the field at Merriwether Middle School.
The public is invited. The cost is $5 per person.
