Patriot reflections
Things at Wardlaw continue to be busy! The varsity volleyball team wrapped up their season this week by playing in the SCISA 1A state championship at Heathwood Hall in Columbia. They played Coastal Academy from Myrtle Beach. Congratulations, Lady Patriots!
The school got in the spirit of the Thanksgiving season by participating in the food drive entitled, "It's Spooky to be Hungry." Many canned goods were donated by the teachers and students. All proceeds will be given to the Golden Harvest Food Bank, and then distributed to those in need during the upcoming holidays.
The Fellowship of Christian Athletes sponsored their first ever community-wide rally, which was held on Wednesday, Oct. 28, on the school's front lawn. "Flock to the Block" was organized by the seven huddle leaders and Ms. Trudi Belcher. All of the schools and church youth groups in the area were invited. The speaker was Jack Easterby, and the praise band was Cherry Case. All of those in attendance experienced God in a great way.
The varsity football team defeated The King's Academy last Friday night in their last regular season game. It was a great game for all of the seniors who were honored before kick-off. Before the game, Coach Hubert Morris was honored with the unveiling on the new name of the football field. As he and his wife stood on the sidelines, the cheerleaders uncovered the name, which read, "Hubert Morris Field." This was a priceless moment for everyone who knows Coach Morris. He has impacted Wardlaw in many ways, and this was a small gesture to repay him for all that he has done. The football team will not play this Friday. Play-offs begin Nov. 6. This game will be played at the home of the higher ranked team.
Thursday, Nov. 5, marks the end of the second grading period. Students have that Friday out of school due to a Teacher Professional/Development Day. Report cards will be issued on Tuesday, Nov. 10.
"Miss Wardlaw" will be held on Nov. 5 in the gym. The annual Fall Festival is this Friday, Oct. 30. There will be food, games and baked goods. Be sure to bring the whole family because there will be something for all ages!
