The Creek speaks
The Human Fly
Here at Mossy Creek Elementary School we have made an unfortunate discovery. We have discovered a magnificent human fly. It is the only one of its species, and it's our very own principal, Mrs. Hammond. We're all shocked! It feels like we just struck gold; it's so amazing, mind-blowing, and darn near awesome! It's probably one of the most remarkable sightings the world has ever seen.
On Friday, Oct. 11, students paid $1 or more to tape Mrs. Hammond to the wall outside on the playground. They drew a web outside on the playground wall and had Mrs. Hammond stand on a ladder. Then they let everyone who had paid a dollar go up by grade level and tape Mrs. Hammond to the wall. It was an awesome thing when she clapped her hands and it all came off. We were all jumping, standing and stretching trying to see.
Mrs. Knapp, our librarian, was the genius who came up with the idea and collected the money. She was collecting money for Scholastic Books, which will use our donations to buy books for needy children. We raised $260, and Scholastic will match our amount, making it a total of $520. We really enjoyed it and hope we get another chance to tape down a fly that big.
