'Frindle'

By ALLY WILLIAMS

In Mrs. Young's fifth class at Belvedere Elementary, we are reading a class novel called "Frindle."

At first we didn't know what Frindle meant. Then we found out that a boy's English teacher said that every word in the dictionary was originally made up by someone. He wanted to make up a word to go in the dictionary, so he made up another word for pen.

He called it a frindle.

In the novel the students have a class picture made while holding a frindle and saying, "Frindle!" Our class imitated that scene.

The photographer was surprised when we said "Frindle" instead of cheese. I strongly recommend that fifth grade students read this book!
