Fox Creek High School has had a lot of big things cooking up lately. The 2010 softball season started up and the girls seem ready and excited. Team member Victoria Gardner said the team is ready and focused. She seems positive they're going to win region, and she says if they stay focused and continue playing like they are now, they should take state as well. The Lady Preds played in a tournament over the weekend. Friday night's game was really cold, and even though the girls were playing their hearts out, they didn't win that one. But FC fans expect great things this season
The baseball team is smoking the fields, too. The guy Preds beat Lakeside, a high-ranking Georgia team, just a few days ago. They missed beating ARC by just one run, a tough loss to former Fox Creek Coach Steve Leathers, who now coaches at Richmond Academy. FC's coach Bell is appreciating assistance from former players Colton Lafon and Tyler Mayson, both 2008 graduates.
Fox Creek participated in the second math competition at Augusta State University. Under the guidance of math instructor Cindy Smith, the math pros didn't fair too badly. Competitor Bobby Herring said they did all right but he wished they could have done better. He said they improved from last year, and they seem to be getting better every year. Bobby said they are planning to put an academic team in place for a better chance of bringing home the top victory next year.
FCA is gearing up for the Garden City Retreat, March 26-28, a fun time of praise and worship as well as competitions on the beach. Zach Buchanan, FCA captain, is spearheading the move to get all FCA members to attend.
The seniors are really pumped for this year's senior trip to Orlando. Senior Chris Szybura said, "I'm excited! We're gone for three days and we're leaving at midnight on the 11th. That gives me three days out of the house." (Reporter's aside: I wish I could go; three days in Orlando sounds great to me.)
Any student trying to find a new school or who can't decide where to go to high school next year should look no further than FCHS. It's a different type of school atmosphere where everyone is friendly and test scores are way up there. Kids here get nothing but the best education. I would like the public to visit and check us out -- or visit foxcreekhs.org.
