Wardlaw takes trophy at chess tourney

The Wardlaw Academy Chess team captured its first team trophy at this year's SCISA Open Chess Tournament held Oct.22 in Orangeburg. Capturing third place for the team in the Lower School Division were Clyde Houk and Beth Warnken. Also competing from Wardlaw were Scott James in the middle school division and Lydia Canon, Brandon Warrick and Daniel Wooten, who competed in the high school division. Wardlaw walked away with 19.5 team points, its most ever. Twenty schools and more than 100 students attended the event.
