Taking note
The next early release day is Wednesday, Oct. 7. Students will be released two hours earlier than normal on that date.
Parent-conference Day, originally scheduled for Oct. 26, has been canceled due to administrator, faculty and staff furloughs that day.
As a result, report cards will be sent home with students on Oct. 27.

Belvedere Elementary School
Walk to School Day -- Wednesday, Oct. 7, is International Walk to School Day. The school will hold a morning walk around the track around 8 a.m. with classes sporting banners, posters, etc.
Junior Jazzercise - It's not too late to join. Every Thursday from 2:30-3:30 in the PE room there's fitness and fun with Junior Jazzercise. Wear tennis shoes and comfortable clothes. Parents, please pick up children at the PE room (behind the portable classrooms) promptly at 3:30. Call Gwyn Snider at 279-4340 if you have any questions.
North Augusta Elementary School
"Pass It On" at the Family Reading Night Book Swap -- On Oct. 15, the North Augusta Elementary PTO will host Family Reading Night. The evening will include a Book Swap during which NAE students will have the opportunity to meet and swap a good book. If a child has finished reading a particular book, now is the time to pass it on. Bring book(s) in a grocery bag marked PTO. Each pod will have a box available for book collections. Mossy Creek Elementary School
Looking for a few good men --Mossy Creek Elementary is looking for men who are willing to serve as mentors to some male students. The men will need to be willing to give about an hour of their time each week to give encouragement and friendship to a third, fourth or fifth grade boy. Mentors will undergo a SLED background check. Hammond Hill Elementary School

The School Improvement Council at Hammond Hill meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 2:15 p.m. -- The next meeting is Tuesday, Oct. 27.
Ms. Long's fifth grade homeroom is collecting tabs from soda cans as a service project to help children in need. The tabs will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House in Augusta.
North Augusta Middle School
Varsity members of the North Augusta Middle School Academic Team are Shawn Jackson, Foster McLane, Travis Redd, Brielle Smith and Emily Wilson. The junior varsity team members are Geoffrey Powell, K.J. Abney, Jacob Burns, Ariel Moore and Tyler Wilson.
Make-up fall pictures will be Oct. 19.
NAMS is participating in the Box tops for Education labels. Students are asked to turn in labels to their homeroom teacher.
NAMS no longer has a full-time nurse; the nurse will be at the school on Tuesday. Medication and other minor needs will be handled by office staff.

Space Camp info meetings --The seventh grade Gifted and Talented students will travel to Space Camp Feb. 3-5, 2010. There will be two parent meetings to discuss the trip. The first is Monday, Oct. 5, at 4 p.m. in Donna Bradberry's portable. The second is Thursday, Oct. 8, at 5 p.m. in the same location. A parent must attend one of these meetings for the child to go to Space Camp.
