School for the Deaf holding open house

- Increasing the independence of South Carolina's residents who are deaf or blind is the goal of four statewide open houses to be hosted by the South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind this week.
The open houses are designed to showcase the technology and expertise the agency offers individuals who are deaf or blind in every South Carolina county. From GPS devices for individuals who are blind to adapted telephones for individuals who are deaf, SCSDB is taking a leadership role in improving accessibility.
Early interventionists are available to assist families of infants and toddlers with sensory disabilities immediately upon diagnosis through age three. SCSDB contracts with school districts across the state to provide teachers who are certified in vision and hearing services and assistive technology. The agency also serves as the state's centralized distribution site for braille and large print textbooks for all eligible public school students in the state.
The final open house of the week is Thursday at Piedmont Regional Outreach Center, 355 Cedar Springs Road, Spartanburg.
