Miss Fox Creek to be chosen Feb. 6


Thirty-four young women will vie for Miss Fox Creek on Saturday, Feb. 6, at Grace United Methodist Church's Wesley Center, 639 Georgia Ave.
The doors will open at 6:15 p.m. and the pageant will begin at 7 p.m.
The cost is $10 a person with children 5 or younger admitted for free. Fox Creek High School students may purchase one ticket for $5 at the door or at presales at the school Friday, Jan. 29, through Thursday, Feb. 4.
The pageant is sponsored by the Fox Creek PTSA.
Pageant contestants include:
Freshmen
* Christina Fowler, daughter of Maureen Fowler, enjoys gymnastics, cheerleading and soccer and wants to be a second-grade teacher.
* Katelyn LaLonde, daughter of Wanda LaLonde, states that living in the '50s would not have been fun because there was no color TV and she would be SO old right now.
* Brittany Hurt, daughter of Greg and Mary Carlton Hurt, is a clogger and she used this talent to earn a place in the top three of the Fox Creek Idol show.
* Haley Bryant, daughter of Clay and Joy Bryant, likes the movie "Facing the Giants" because it shows how to look for God for help.
* Kate Fentress, daughter of Stephanie Cowart and Ken Fentress, states that the '50s would not be a fun time for her to live because she doesn't like the fashion: rolled up jeans and leathery materials.
* Sawyer Branham, daughter of Laurie Lockliear and James Branham, sings opera and hopes to use this gift of music in therapeutic teaching of children/teens with cerebral palsy.
* Summer Payne, daughter of Thomas and Petronella Payne, is enjoying high school because the classes are more challenging, and she likes the romantic aspect of "Edward Scissorhands," a horror movie.
* Abbie Ergle, daughter of Ashley and Kellee Ergle, enjoys hunting, fishing and riding a four-wheeler, and she appreciates her brother being in the same school to look out for her.
* Shanae Marshall, daughter of Lakisha Marshall, thinks the way people had self-expression through songs and clothes would make the '50s a fun time to live.
* Maddie Miller, daughter of Dr. Thomas and Mrs. Sherrie Miller, claims her dad is her role model because with determination he entered college at 28 to pursue a career he wanted.
Sophomores
* Carrie Krebs, daughter of John Krebs, likes the movie "A Walk to Remember" because it shows that dreams really can come true and true love will last forever.
* Victoria Raymond, daughter of Jennifer Henry, enjoys four-wheeling and plans to go to the Air Force Academy to become a pilot.
* Kristen Anderson, daughter of Wayne and Wanda Anderson, likes high school because it provides her more time to enjoy with the friends through softball and cheerleading.
* Sulina Martin, daughter of Timothy and Debbie Martin, wants to be a cosmetologist because of her interest in hair and beauty, and she wants a job in which she can set her own hours.
* Sara Loper, daughter of Trevor Loper and Fran Bryant, likes the movie "Phantom of the Opera" because it is a beautiful showing of man's inhumanity to man.
Juniors
* Alysa Moon, daughter of Jacque Amelsberg and Robert Moon, thinks living in the '50s would have been great because families were stronger and going to the ice cream shop with friends was the teen's idea of fun.
* Danielle Cooper, daughter of Matthew and Melanie Cooper, likes any movie with Johnny Depp - especially "Cry Baby," and as a Teacher Cadet, she really does want to teach after college.
* Kayla Sizemore, daughter of Patrick and Jayne Sizemore, states that she likes the softball movie, "A League of Their Own," because it shows teamwork and the willingness to work hard.
* Haley Hutto, daughter of Deborah Hutto, is an aspiring actress who likes the movie "Edward Scissorhands," the story of being different and trying to fit in.
* Victoria Gardner, daughter of Robert and Deborah Gardner, has hopes of becoming a pediatric oncologist after serving her time as a Predator softball player.
* Courtney Anderson, daughter of Richard and Lee Ann Anderson, appreciates the theme of "Sweet Home Alabama": Being yourself is always the best and those who truly love you do so even in your difficult times.
* Elizabeth Lemacks, daughter of Donald and Donna Lemacks, agrees that the '50s style of living fits her idea of the way to live: laid-back and more stress-free.
* Chelsea McLendon, daughter of Lisa Woodward and Glenn McLendon, cherishes her grandmother who is a strong Christian woman who always does what is right and has taught her to follow dreams.
* Shelby Smith, daughter of Monty and Carol Smith, says that the '50s style of clothing would be fun and the carefree lifestyle would be better than the stress of today.
* Simbia Thomas, daughter of Sonya Johnson and Stanley Johnson, believes that high school is preparing and giving her structure for her future in speech pathology.
* Ansley Chamberlain, daughter of Glen and Carolyn Chamberlain, admires her neighbor Dana Morris, who always had a positive attitude and constant smile during her bout with breast cancer.
Seniors
* Colleen Kennedy, granddaughter of Ann and William Pitka, will pursue a career in music therapy where she might be able to incorporate her love for the Beatles' songs and her operatic talents.
* Brittany Boykin, daughter of Lisa and Alan Boykin, loves the movie "Public Enemy" with Johnny Depp, and her career plans are to study to be a middle school - preferably seventh-grade - English teacher.
* Megan Moxley, daughter of Ricky and Lorrie Moxley, enjoys the movie "The Fox and the Hound" because it shows the developing friendship of two different animals and teaches that the heart is what matters most.
* Samantha Trobough, daughter of Lisa Trobough and Terry Fulmer, plans to be a counseling psychiatrist so she can share her compassion and inspire others to make the best of their lives.
* Ashlyn Duplisea, daughter of Mathew and Mary Jo Duplisea, realizes how much she will miss the closeness of everyone at Fox Creek after graduation where everyone seems to have a place, kind of like the characters in her favorite move, "The Breakfast Club."
* Candace Cordell, daughter of Robert and Tera Velasco, is a young graduate having worked to finish a year early and move on toward her goal of becoming a dental hygienist
* Danielle Payne, daughter of Thomas and Petronella Payne, looks up to her mother as a role model and knows she can use her mom's traits of self-sacrifice and encouragement when she becomes a second-grade teacher.
* Jade Bryan, daughter of Kelley Hughes and Brooks Bryan, thinks living in the '50s would have been so much fun because of all the fun stories her grandmother has shared with her.
* Lindsey Elgin, daughter of Janet and Howard Arthurs, wants to be a journalist because of her passion for writing - an arena where self-expression is self-satisfying.
* Brook Fentress, daughter of Mark and Jennifer Fentress, claims Elizabeth Bennet in "Pride and Prejudice" as a favorite novel character, mainly because Elizabeth was strong-willed and stood up for what she believed.
* Meghan Prince, daughter of Brooke Boyd, claims that the '50s would have been a blast: hanging out at the diner, going to the drive-in movies and dancing at the sock hops.
* Taylor Thompson, daughter of Steve Thompson and Hedi Thompson, enjoys reading, playing sports and hanging out with friends and is looking forward to a career that centers on helping others.
