Gayle Foster and Mary Cris Newell were honored with "special recognition" pins at last week's meeting of the Grace United Methodist Women.

Co-president of the group, Suzanne Fowley explained that "special recognition" is given to any person a UMW deems worthy because of the level of their involvement in the church or community.

The only requirement, said Fowley, is that the person must have had church responsibilities for three years or more.

In announcing Foster's selection, co-president Susan Cliett detailed a number of the recipient's activities. In addition to being a long-time member of Grace UMW -- including being the co-chair and vice chair of the group -- Foster is active in a church circle, on committees such as the parsonage and wedding committee, a participant in G.I.F.T.S., a Master Gardener and member of the garden council.

Presenter Martha Ginn pointed out that when her circle suggested Newell's name, most people were astounded that she had not already received the "special recognition" award.

Ginn listed Newell's activities, among them study leader, missions, Bible Study leader, praise band, New Life Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Kindermusik, etc.

She concluded by saying Newell was a Christian example -- "the hands and feet of Christ."
