Pat Jay Riley
The Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Pat Jay Riley, 37, of North Augusta, who departed this life Nov. 20, 2009, to the loving arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, were conducted Monday morning at St. Edward Catholic Church with Father Cherian Thalakulam as celebrant. Final Prayers and Commendation were in Pineview Memorial Park Mausoleum.
In the words of St. Paul, Pat Jay fought the good fight, he finished the race and his heavenly reward awaits him.
Pat Jay leaves behind his parents, Barney and Catherine Riley; two sisters; and his only child, Dezmas Riley, his angel.
The family received friends Monday morning at the church until the hour of the service.

Gertie King
Funeral services for Mrs. Gertrude "Gertie" Smith King, 66, of Kingstree Road, Belvedere, who entered into rest Nov. 17, 2009, were conducted Saturday morning at the Bible Deliverance Temple with the Rev. Jackie Ray Robinson, Dr. H.K. McKnight and Dr. Kelly McKnight officiating. Interment was in Bellevue Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. King was a native of Knoxville, Tenn., and a former resident of Augusta, having made Belvedere her home for the past three years. She attended High Praises Church of God and was a former member of Bible Deliverance Temple.
Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Paul H. "Buddy" King; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Scott and Julie King of North Augusta and Tim King of Belvedere; a daughter and son-in-law, Shari and William Vincent of Augusta; a brother, Max Smith of Statesboro, Ga.; four sisters, Edna Stevens of Spring City, Tenn., Margaret Kerr and Ruth Elliott, both of Knoxville, Tenn., and Catherine Childress of Atlanta, Ga.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family received friends at the funeral home Friday evening.

Aline G. Carter
Memorial services for Mrs. Aline Graham Carter, 93, of North Augusta, who entered into rest Nov. 17, 2009, were conducted Friday morning at the Posey Funeral Chapel with veterans' honors. Dr. Paul W. Noe officiated.
Mrs. Carter was a native of Cokesburg, having made North Augusta her home for many years. She was the wife of the late Mr. Clyde C. Carter, a member of Sweetwater Baptist Church, a graduate of Lander College, a World War II veteran of the Women's Corps, having served in England, and was retired from Satcher Motor Company of Aiken. Mrs. Carter was predeceased by her son, Fred C. Carter; her parents, John Marion and Mai Banks Graham; three sisters, Alice McCollum, Joan White and Mary VanHorn; two brothers, Robert Lee Graham and Banks Joseph Graham.
Mrs. Carter was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was very loving and giving to everyone and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include a grandson and his wife, Clay and Deborah Carter; two granddaughters and their husbands, Jennifer and Tommy Akens of Evans and Dawn and Lee Cullipher of Lincolnton, Ga.; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Martha Tyner of Florida and Agnes Drayton of Bishopville.
The family received friends at the funeral home prior to the service. The family was at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Clay Carter 1149 Thornwood Drive, North Augusta.

The family expresses deep appreciation to the Hammond House and its employees for their loving and devoted care given to Mrs. Carter.

Ruth VanNess
Memorial services for Mrs. Ruth VanNess, 89, of Murrah Road Extension, North Augusta, who entered into rest Nov. 22, 2009, will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Posey Funeral Chapel. Interment will be private.
Mrs. VanNess was a native of Nanjemoy, Md., having made North Augusta her home for the past seven years. She was the wife of the late Mr. Elmer John VanNess.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Frank VanNess of North Augusta and John and Debbie VanNess of Crofton, Md.; a brother, Pat Gilroy of Chickamuckson, Md.; three sisters, Dot Varnado of Brentwood, Md., Shirley Furlong of Glen Burnie, Md., and Mary Jane Gilroy of Los Angeles, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service.
