Edward L. Chambers Sr.
Funeral services for Mr. Edward Leon Chambers Sr., 83, of Sandy Hill Court, North Augusta, who entered into rest Oct. 12, 2009, were conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Posey Funeral Chapel with the Revs. John Los and Chris Smith officiating. Interment was in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mr. Chambers was a native of Meridian, Miss., having made North Augusta his home for the past 61 years. He was retired from King Mill. He was the husband of the late Mrs. Ouida Chambers, grandfather of the late Christopher Leon Fernandes and father-in-law of the late Faye Chambers.
Survivors include a son, Edward L. Chambers Jr. of Thomson, Ga.; six daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy and Alvin Scruggs of Augusta, Edwina and Edward Marshall of Modoc, Linda and Robert Boullie of Windsor, Mary and Jim Fernandes and Betty Gipson and Dana Sue Mills, all of North Augusta; 19 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were the grandsons.
The family received friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening.

Dale T. Stephens
Memorial services for Mr. Dale T. Stephens, 77, of Robin Road, North Augusta, who entered into rest Oct. 18, 2009, were to be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Friendship Baptist Church with veterans' honors. The Revs. Heyward Horton and Howard Brown officiated. Interment will be private.
Mr. Stephens was a native of Chesterfield County, having made North Augusta his home for the past 37 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict and was the owner of Dale's Country Kitchen. He was a member of the Pee Dee Shrine Club of Florence, a charter member and worthy patron of the Mecca Chapter 278 of the Order of the Eastern Star, and the North Augusta-Belvedere Rescue Squad. Mr. Stephens was preceded in death by eight brothers, Daniel Stephens Jr., Frank Stephens, Pete Stephens, Doc Stephens, Joel Stephens, Howard Stephens, and two infant brothers; two sisters, Gay Elizabeth Stephens and Carolyn Ziegler; a grandson Dustin Berry.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 55 years, Doris Dixon Stephens; a son and daughter-in-law, Shawn and Amy Stephens, North Augusta; two daughters and sons-in-law, Anita and Robert Fields of North Augusta and Robbin Stephens-Harmon and her husband, Larry, of Belvedere; a brother, Donald "Mutt" Stephens (Louise); seven grandchildren, Robert H. Fields Jr., Ward Berry (Sarah), Allen Berry, Shane Fields, Savanna Stephens, Aaron Stephens and Ryan Stephens; three great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Ethan Berry and Lily Fields.
The family received friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening.

Charles Finer
Memorial services for Mr. Charles Finer, 77, of Leesville, who entered into rest Oct. 15, 2009, will be conducted, Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, at 4 p.m. in the Cedar Creek RV Park Clubhouse, 260 Gantt Mill Road, Leesville, with the Rev. Byron Widener and Chaplain Mark Bredholt officiating. Interment will be private.
Mr. Finer was a native of Orange, N.J., and a former resident of California City, Calif., having made South Carolina his home for the past 12 years. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, a retired stationary engineer for NBC Burbank and the L.A. County Sheriff's Dept. and was a private pilot. Mr. Finer was a member of the Augusta Amateur (Ham) Radio Club.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Finer; a son, Mike Finer, Neptune Township, N.J.; three daughters, Vickie Finer Klumpp of Albuquerque, N.M., Christy Wells of Elizabeth City, N.C., and Wendy Vaught of Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; a step-son, Todd Kokko, Lexington; a step-daughter, Lisa Walker, Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; two sisters, Janice Johnson, Phillipsburg, N.J., and Kathy Colon, North Hollywood, Calif.; 20 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

A. Blake Cooper
Memorial services for Alexander Blake Cooper, 18, of Windmill Lane, Evans, Ga., who entered into rest Oct. 15, 2009, were conducted Saturday afternoon in New Life Christian Center with the Rev. Bryan Matthews officiating.
Blake was a life-long resident of Columbia County. He was a member of New Life Christian Center and a former Greenbrier High School student. He attended Augusta Tech and was employed by Kroger of Evans as a produce clerk. Blake was an avid guitarist and gardener.
Survivors include his parents, Bruce and Pam Cooper, Evans; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Heather Cooper of Augusta and Trish and Brandon Hammond of Evans; grandparents, Virginia Cooper of North Augusta and Marion and Mae Turner of Hephzibah; a nephew, Jansen Hammond; two nieces, Haley Cooper and Noble Hammond.
The family received friends at the church following the service. The family was at the residence of Mrs. Virginia Cooper, 15 White Oak Drive, North Augusta.

Elaine Arrants Long
Memorial services for Mrs. Elaine Arrants Long, 82, of Todd Street, New Ellenton, who entered into rest Oct. 19, 2009, were to be conducted this Wednesday at 2 p.m. from St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev. C. Brian Gilmer officiating. Interment was to be in St. Paul Cemetery.
Mrs. Long was a proud and loving mother of three children, to whom she taught the values of hard work, honesty, and dedication. Born in Belgium, she came to the United States as a World War II bride of an American soldier, James E. Arrants, with whom she settled in New Ellenton in 1953 and was married for 29 years. A strong, independent and capable woman, she became a naturalized citizen, learned and spoke perfect English and was fiercely proud to be an American. She loved singing and dancing, enjoyed various genres of music, working in her yard and her many poodles over the years. She was a longtime active member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in New Ellenton and showed her faith through work with shut-ins and those in need of comfort. Mrs. Long retired from Kimberly-Clark in Beech Island.
Elaine loved her family, her church, her adopted country, her neighbors and friends. She leaves with a life fully lived with gusto, joy, an impish smile and a hand firmly on the controls. She will deeply be missed.
Mrs. Long is survived by her husband of 32 years, Warren W. Long; a daughter and her husband, Donna and Billy Creech, of Oriental, N.C.; a son, Don Arrants of Panama City, Fla.; a daughter and her partner, Laurie Arrants and Josie of Falls Church, Va.; her two stepsons and their wives, Chip and Ann Long of Denver, Colo., Jack and Liz Long of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a stepdaughter and her husband, Margy and Roy Windmuller of Aiken; two grandchildren, Eric Arrants and Sonja Arrants, and her step-grandchildren, David Long and Jenny Hatch; seven great-grandchildren. Her sister, Rachel Meykens-Meuwis of Hoboken, Belgium, is her last surviving sibling. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and their children in the United States and Belgium.
The family was to receive friends at the St. Paul Family Life Center following the service.
