A green 2004 Ford Explorer belonging to an Augusta man was stolen on Sunview Drive May 4. It was valued at $4,000. The suspect in the case is an Augusta man who lives in a motel on Washington Road and, having expressed interest in buying the vehicle, took it for a test drive but never returned it. Along with the driver, car and keys, the title is also missing, having apparently been taken while the owner was taking a shower.
A $2,400 bicyle, described as a blue and white Haro 360, was stolen April 28 on West Avenue.
A simple larceny occurred on Crestlyn Drive May 2-4. Stolen was a gas-powered weed trimmer valued at $320.
Two North Augusta men, having been noticed in a vehicle that was being driven erratically near Knox Avenue and Sycamore Drive, were arrested and jailed May 4. Charges included driving under the influence, having an open container of alcohol, driving without a license and public drunkenness. The driver was found to have a blood-alcohol level of .27 percent -- more than three times the amount necessary to be certified as impaired.
A woman from Aiken was arrested and jailed May 3 on charges of speeding (47 miles an hour in a 30 zone), possession of cocaine and simple possession of marijuana, after a traffic stop and K-9 "sniff" at Georgia and Buena Vista avenues.
A Martinez man was arrested and jailed May 2 on charges of speeding (63 miles an hour in a 40 zone), having an open container of beer and driving while suspended, after a traffic stop road at West Avenue and Martintown Road.
A black and silver Pocket Rocket scooter, valued at $600, was stolen April 10 (and reported May 2) on Bradleyville Road. The suspect in the case is described as a teenage Conifer Court resident who took it for what was supposed to be a short ride but never returned and was last seen heading west on Bradleyville Road.
An act of vandalism occurred April 14-20 (and was reported May 2) on Fieldcrest Avenue, with $8,000 in damage having resulted from a faucet having been turned on while a drain was plugged, causing flooding and mold. The criminal(s) also knocked a hole in the wall of a back bedroom.
A $3,000 truck that had been displayed for sale was stolen May 1 on Martintown Road. The thief was described as a black male wearing blue jeans and a blue shirt with white stripes. The truck was a blue 1985 Chevrolet Scottsdale.
A man from North Augusta was arrested and jailed May 1 on a charge of public drunkenness, after an incident in the parking lot of Martintown Plaza. Moments after the initial arrest, he was also charged with destruction of City property, due to him having slammed his head repeatedly into a police car's hood.
A North Augusta man is a suspect in a case of grand larceny, based on the April 11-29 taking of $1,750 in items -- copper tubing and an air-conditioning condenser from a residence on Alta Vista Avenue.
An Edgefield man, having been noticed ignoring a red light while driving at Knox Avenue and Bradleyville Road, was arrested and jailed April 29. Charges included resisting arrest, disregarding a traffic signal and driving without a driver's license. Having been stopped, the driver ran away from the car, toward an apartment complex, injuring himself on a barbed-wire fence at Pinecrest Apartments. He was identified, however, due to having left his South Carolina identification card in the vehicle. He was found on Groves Boulevard.
A black GMC Jimmy four-door, valued at $3,000 and bearing S.C. tag 525 WNL, was stolen April 28 on Martintown Road. The thief, who drove away with the vehicle on what he claimed was to be a test drive, was described as a black male 40-50 years old.
A burglary and simple larceny occurred April 28 on Frances Street. Described as taking $870 in cash were two Hispanic males, noted as 25-30 years old and leaving the scene in a white Ford truck after entering the house by breaking out the glass in a side door.
An incident of shoplifting occurred April 27 on Market Place Drive, with $45 in ribeye steaks being stolen by a black male who left in a green "older model Pontiac Grand Am," heading south on US 25. He was described as 35-45 years old and about six feet tall and 190 pounds.
An SUV valued at $20,000 was stolen April 25-26 on Pershing Drive. It was described as a black 2004 GMC Yukon.
A man from North Augusta was arrested and jailed April 26 on Towhee Drive, on a charge of driving under the influence, after his vehicle became lodged in a ditch. He performed poorly in sobriety tests and was found to have a blood-alcohol level of .17 percent.
