Post Office strikes again
A regular reader has come into The Star for the last two weeks, saying he didn't get a Star but knew his subscription was up to date. Upon investigation, it was discovered that the subscription had been put on hold per the Post Office said there was no such address. The subscriber then went to the Post Office and was told there was a new carrier on the route and he had decided the address did not exist. "I've lived at the same address for the last 15 years," he declared.
Aiken County Historical Museum director Elliott Levy explained last week that he came to Aiken County looking for a place to get away from the Maine winters. He then found out about the job opening at the museum and applied. He joked that it was a pleasant surprise when the local museum board hired him. "Now that I'm here, I won't let my board make any decisions anymore," he joked.
Elliott Levy said in the process of moving to Aiken, he encountered someone who pointed out, "We hate Yankees down here." To which Levy responded, "Me, too. I'm a Boston Red Sox fan."
North Augusta Department of Public Safety Director John Thomas told North Augusta/Belvedere Board of Realtors that when he was moving to North Augusta he received an important warning from Bob Bolton. He told Thomas, "When you're coming down Martintown Road, whatever you do, do not speed."
Stupid criminal of the day
Last week a robbery occurred in broad daylight at The Groves Apartments. A local Realtor said he happened to be on site and saw the two robbers exiting the location of the crime. He called 9-1-1 and kept a visual track on the perpetrators. One officer arrived in an unmarked car. The officer noticed a man meeting the initial description running from the area. The officer stopped and said, "You look out of breath. Do you want a ride?" The suspect got in. As he sat down, the officer wshowed his badge pulled out his handcuffs and said, 'You are under arrest."
