Still looking
The lost Jack Russell Terrier mentioned in The Star a few weeks ago is still missing. April Cruz, whose husband is in Iraq, said she has received calls about sighting of a Jack Russell, but by the time she gets there the dog is gone. She said the pooch, named Jack, may be somewhat skittish and run from strangers. But she asked if anyone sees a dog that meets her dog's description to please call her at (803) 426-0540.
The trivia queen
Mary Ellen Sartori, winner of the "Back to the '60s" contest, stopped by to claim her prize on Monday. She brought with her one of two family pets -- a miniature Dalmatian named Pepper who is obviously ready for Halloween.
Deeper and deeper still
North Augusta City Councilman Arthur Shealy shared a little perspective at Monday evening's Council meeting, in connection with Youth Appreciation Day, which honors some of North Augusta High School's top students and gives them an up-close look at the workings of local government. When the topic of retirement benefits arose, Shealy said, "Speaking of retirement, I would like to thank all these students for paying my retirement, and I would also like to ask them to thank their great-grandchildren for paying back the federal debt my generation has incurred."
