Who are they -- and where are they now?
Mary Ellen Sartori of North Augusta was the first to identify correctly everyone in the '60s graduate contest. She recognized Barbara Ouzts Sweeney, Billy Thurmond, Larry Abernathy, Charlie Waters, Monti Boyd McDaniel, Frankye King, Lark Jones and Terry Bodiford. She also recognized Jon Buffington as Macbeth.
A close second was Allen Simmons, who recognized everyone except noted one photo was particular fuzzy. Upon seeing the photo on computer screen, he recognized the mayor.
Barbara Ouzts and Monti McDaniel now live next door to each other at Savannah Barony. Ouzts works with the Arts and Heritage Center. McDaniel is a former teacher and is married to another local, Allison McDaniel.
Billy Thurmond is well-known in North Augusta as half of the Family Physicians of North Augusta practice. He is married to the former Beverly Neely.
Larry Abernathy is retired from Clemson University but continues to serve as mayor of Clemson. (Ironically, the 1965 North Augusta High School annual has a photo identifying him as the mayor of Teen Town.) He is married to NASH classmate Jo Ann Davis.
Charlie Waters, a former Dallas Cowboy, works in Dallas for Energy Transfer, a natural gas mover. Cliff Harris, also a former Cowboy, works with him. He is married to Rosie and they have two sons Ben and Cliff.
Frankye King still keeps in touch through friends here, including The Star's own Mim Woodring, her other mom.
Lark Jones is a local attorney and the mayor of North Augusta. He is married to the former Christy Brown, also a member of the class of 1967.
Terry Bodiford is the financial director of Aiken County and also still lives in North Augusta. He is married to North Augusta Elementary School teacher Susie Hein-Bodiford.
Jon Buffington, who was pictured in Macbeth in the annual photo, is now a priest and is in Portland, Ore.
